Traditional Hula

Ka Pā Hula Hawai’i is committed to preserving hula's authenticity with an emphasis on traditional choreography and creating new works within a true Hawaiian perspective.

Ka Pā Hula Hawaiʻi is a 501(c)(3) cultural and educational organization founded in 1973 by Loea Hula John Renken Kaha’i Topolinski and is dedicated to practicing the traditional Hawaiian art of dance, ‘Ōlelo Hawai’i, and the preservation of Hawaiian cultural knowledge. 

For over 53 years, Ka Pā Hula Hawai’i has taught generations of students traditional hula and its various aspects, Hawaiian history, nohona Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian way of life), and wahi pana (storied places). 

Multigenerational Legacy of Learned Hula Traditions

Ka Pā Hula Hawai‘i stresses the preservation of traditional Hawaiian culture through extensive research followed by practicing and upholding those learned traditions.

Under the direction of Loea Hula John R. Kaha‘i Topolinski, our practices honor and perpetuate Hawaiian cultural traditions passed on by Loea Hula Kaha‘i’s illustrious teachers and sources, including Master Kumu Hula(s) Maiki Aiu Lakeand Mary Kawena Puku‘i, Pat Bacon, Pele Puku‘i Suganuma, Henry Pā, and many other notable hula practitioners.

Loea Hula Kaha‘i has been the principal instructor of Ka Pā Hula Hawai‘i for 53 successful years with multiple generations of hula‘ōlapa (hula dancers). He is supported by Nā Kumu Hula, Harry Ka‘u, Rachele (Lee) Gomes, Lauri Kau‘i (Quihano) Maikui, and Zachary Ikaika Bantolina.
